OK Student Wins First Culpwrit Award

   Brittany Stidham

Lindsey + Asp, the student-run PR agency at the University of Oklahoma, indirectly honored me by naming an award after this blog.  The award is presented to “an aspiring public relations professional who is multi-dimensional and has demonstrated a commitment and desire to teach others.”

Recipient of the first Culpwrit Award is Brittany Stidham, who just finished her junior year at Oklahoma’s Gaylord College.  A native of Flower Mound, Texas, Brittany is a journalism-PR major, with minors in sociology and Spanish.

PR professor Robert “Pritch” Pritchard started the agency last year with 15 students, who received Practicum credit for both the Fall and Spring semesters.  Selection as a member of Lindsey + Asp is the result of a rigorous application, interview and portfolio review process.  Because of her performance in the Fall, Brittany was promoted to Senior Account Manager for one of the agency’s most challenging on-campus clients–and she delivered.

Most importantly, Pritch notes that Brittany has taken the time to teach.  “She is always ensuring that her teammates are comfortable with the skill sets required to execute their portion of the work for the client,” he said.  “If not, I’ve seen her take that person aside and patiently instruct them on the particular aspect that was challenging them.  She is also multi-dimensional, moving easily among and between the various facets of public relations and advertising.  From writing to graphic design and video production, Brittany gets it and sees how all the pieces fit together.”

Congratulations, Brittany.

Special thanks to friend and former collegue Kevin Saghy, who presented the award to Brittany.  Kevin is former national president of PRSSA and is the creative mind who came up with the name Culpwrit when I sought his ideas as I was weighing starting this blog.  Kevin now is a PR and marketing specialist for the Chicago Cubs.
